As a young widow with a new baby, Catherine Ponder found herself in a tricky spot. Without a college degree, she had to quickly figure out how to provide for herself and her son. And quick!! After some persistence, she secured a position with a prominent attorney in North Carolina.
She was eager for a better life, more fulfillment, which led her to a correspondence course with the Unity Church, based in Kansas. Enthralled with the practical teachings, she became an ordained minister over the years.
She started her new role as minister in Alabama in the 1950s. Quite frankly, many in her congregation were majorly struggling with money. Ever the problem solver, she became obsessed with the spiritual laws that governed success, especially finances. She ended up specializing in this topic, writing over a dozen books and speaking at countless lectures across the country.
In her lectures, she offers “principles” that she believes shape your financial success. At the very tippity top of the list in her lectures is–>
Clean Up and Clean Out.
Here she encourages you to clean up your physical space: your office, garage, attic, laundry room, desk drawers. She said that your life must be in order before you can bring in more good, you have to put your life in total order.
Clutter impacts your thought patterns. Clutter is like that circle on your computer when it is malfunctioning that keeps spinning and won’t stop. It is on your mind at some level.
This week when I was consulting with a client, we talked about how we can also have clutter in our businesses. You know, the kind that brings in some money, but takes a lot of extra time and isn’t scalable.
Clutter can be the work that you do to bring in a little extra money, but doesn’t serve your core audience. Clutter could be selling to the wrong clients. Or selling things that don’t align with your overall mission. The kind that does not spark joy.
Grabbing up what you can to get by.
This week, I encourage you to look for the clutter in your business. Not just your inbox or files, but your offerings and clients or customers.
Where could you clear out the clutter and create some white space in your business to breathe, to make room for your EMPIRE!
