The energy around the beginning of a new year, especially this new decade is contagious! How great is the time between Christmas and New Years where people come out of the hibernation of day-to-day bustle to dream bigger?!
I know that you will likely be planning your spring marketing campaigns, perhaps even as part of your new goals. So I want to share with you a killer tip that will help you to get higher conversions with online marketing😍
As you are creating each marketing piece, I want you to hop into dating mode. Even if that was a long time ago, stick with me…
When working with clients, I often find that when they are creating marketing pieces, they want to include every.single.option for their prospect in just one piece. This is where I loop in dating.
Let’s say that a guy is interested in asking a girl out on a date.
He boldly asks her to go out to a restaurant. She is thrilled, and is about to say yes…Before she can answer, he then stumbles to say that if she doesn’t want to go to a restaurant, maybe they could go to the movies?
Shoving his hands in his pockets, he looks down and suggests that if she doesn’t like going to the movies, perhaps they could go grab a drink?
The guy who seemed great at first, now looks weak.
The exact same thing happens when you ask your prospect to take multiple actions in one marketing piece.
For example, in an email to your prospects, you might have a call to action to buy your product, and a call to action to read an article you just wrote, then another call to action to join your new Facebook private group, and finally they could hit reply to tell you what concerns they have…
You only get to make one ask.
You only want one call to action.
So figure out what the #1 thing you want them to do (that they are likely to say YES to) and ask for that. Then…STOP.
You’re done.
You can ask them to do that one call to action more than once, but you can only ask for one action.
Multiple asks waters down your message, and often confuses or distracts your audience.
I would love to challenge you to create a marketing piece this week, with only one call to action, and let me know how it turns out.
