This bumper sticker, journal cover, t-shirt and tagline has gotten a lot of traction over the past couple years.
“You can sit with us” says: you’re okay and you’re welcome.
And not only sit, but talk, contribute, and laugh with us.Not to be overly dramatic, but this invitation can be life-giving for people.
Let me now loop this idea into your business. More specifically, your marketing.
Over the past couple months, this “invitation” has been a focus for me in my copywriting for marketing. Both for my own business, and for my clients.
It is a shift from teaching, or perhaps, (accidentally at times) talking “at” someone, to inviting them to the party.🥂
Now when writing an email for a client, or a caption for a social media post, my first question is: “How can I invite someone into the conversation?”
What would be interesting and engaging enough to hit reply, comment or share?
Here are a couple ideas that I think through before I start writing:
- How can I bring a high level of energy to this marketing piece? (Energy attracts, so keep this in mind with all of your communication.)
- People LOVE to be helpful, so how could I encourage them to interact through their natural desire to be helpful?
- How can I move from my formal training of (stiff) writing to be more conversational
While it doesn’t always feel natural to me at first, I can see that this is an important communication skill for business owners right now. And I don’t see that stopping any time soon!
To better engage with your customers, how have YOU adapted your communication style to invite your prospects and customers to engage?
P.S. Late next month, I will be opening up for a small number of spots for marketing consulting. If you want to get on the waitlist to learn more, click here.
