A few weeks ago, my husband called me on his way to work. “Babe, you have to listen to the most recent Joe Rogan podcast. You’re going to love it. The guest, James Nestor, validates everything you have done with Hannah over the past two years.”
Now my husband is an early adopter for just about everything, so I pay attention when he is excited about something. Especially when he is excited about me being right! LOL!
So I listen to the podcast, then buy the book.
James Nestor is a journalist, who has spent nearly a decade studying breathing. He claims that modern humans have lost the ability to breathe well and the effects on our bodies are disaterious.
Before the industrial revolution and farming, our faces were wide, making deep, slow breathing a cinch! As Nestor points out, not all evolution in the body is positive.
But with our modern mushy food and traditional braces, our mouths have shrunk. This means our breathing has suffered dramatically, which causes a whole host of new issues! In the book he recommends Orthotropics.
A couple years ago, my daughter’s physical therapist recommended we see a specialist a couple hours away for a treatment called Orthotropics, designed by Dr. Mew. She announced to us that our daughter’s mouth was a mess, and that, she was likely waking up many times throughout the night because she couldn’t breathe. (This was later confirmed in a sleep study.)
Although we did not know another soul who had done this, we decided to take a leap of faith to help her to breathe better.
Two years into the treatment, and I am pleased to say she now sleeps like a baby and breathes with ease. The dark circles have faded, and she has experienced more focus and attention. (That’s my little spot of sunshine reading Anne of Green Gables😍)
What jumped out at me is that breathing is so very basic. Give me the high tech, the shiny ball, the new thing Tim Ferriss just discovered…I want all of that!!
But breathing?? Like getting socks for Christmas.
Yet, as you explore the book, you realize there is no long term health without a proper foundation in this.
Marketing your business is just the same.
Until you get this down, you will likely be on a rollercoaster, hoping for referrals or hoping your current customers will buy more.
